FY21 22 Retrospective

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

Ferris Bueller famously told us that "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." So here's us, stopping and looking around the last financial year. Oh yeah!

New Clients

In the last 12 months, we have secured several significant new clients including the Food Standards Agency (£3m) to be their digital, data, technology and cyber security partner (a 2-year contract) and NHS Property Services to deliver their data strategy. We have also worked with several local authorities and housing associations.

For these clients, we have delivered some outstanding work. From using augmented reality to help clients conduct remote inspections to using cutting-edge technology to help clients understand how to better regulate online markets (the same technology is being used to help manage misinformation and disinformation with regards to the war in Ukraine), to delivering a new data platform with automated statutory reporting, we have transformed internal- and external-facing digital services for our clients.

New Frameworks

We have also been awarded a place on a new Crown Commercial Service (CCS) procurement framework: Digital Specialists and Programmes RM6263 framework for Lot 1 Digital Programmes. This is a significant achievement as we were one of only 50 suppliers to be successfully appointed. We now sit on three CCS frameworks: Digital Outcomes & Specialists, GCloud and Digital Specialists and Programmes - giving public sector buyers multiple routes to our services and reassurance that our services meet the high standards they would expect.

New Records

In March 2022, i10 ranked number 31 in a list of 237 UK Government suppliers on the Crown Commercial Service's Digital Outcomes and Specialists (DOS) framework. To put this fantastic performance in context, i10 is positioned between Deloitte (30) and PwC (32) in the rankings; ahead of giants KPMG and other established players.

New Accreditations Additionally, in the last 12 months, we have achieved Cyber Essentials Plus certification - the highest level of certification under the Cyber Essentials scheme backed by the Government and administered by the National Cyber Security Centre. This is important because it reassures our clients that we are working to secure our IT against cyber attacks increasing their confidence in our services.

Social Value But for us it's not just about the bottom line - we are here to make a difference not just to our clients, but to the communities in which we operate. That's where our commitments to social value come in.

In May 2021 we became carbon negative for the first time - offsetting our carbon footprint for 2020. In September 2021, we became a member of Social Enterprise UK - demonstrating our commitment to Social Value. In November 2021, i10 became a signatory to the Prompt Payment Code (PPC). Administered by the Office of the Small Business Commissioner on behalf of the Department for Business, Environment, Innovation and Skills (BEIS), the PPC is a voluntary code of practice for businesses that sets the standards for payment practices - ensuring our partners and suppliers are always paid on time.

In late 2021, i10 joined the SME climate hub, recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign - making i10 one of 2,600 SMEs across 84 countries to have committed to achieving net-zero emissions by no later than 2050.

But we felt that 2050 was too late to deliver on these commitments. So in March 2022 we went further - and backdated our carbon offset to the year we were founded in 2006. In order to achieve this, we worked with Ecologi, a community and platform for climate action that is funding a huge range of leading climate solutions. At the time of writing, we have planted a total of 18,500 trees and achieved 150 tonnes of carbon reduction. You can track our progress here: https://ecologi.com/i10

Also on the social value front, in the last 6 months alone we have donated over 24,000 meals to Fareshare.

We have made further sustainability and social value commitments that for every piece of future work signed, we will plant another 540 trees and donate 1,200 more meals through Fareshare.

We believe this makes us one of the most sustainable SMEs in the UK.

New People

All this has meant we've been able to expand our core team and we're delighted to be working with Juliet Lack (FD), Donna Hogg (vEA) and Cara Birkett (vEA).

We've also benefitted from some excellent advice from our friends at The Consultancy Growth Network (TCGN), particularly Marcia Marini, Marc Jantzen and George Berrington.

New Partners

Our ecosystem continues to go from strength to strength and we are delighted to have added a number of exciting partners to the mix, including BetterGov, Hitachi Solutions, Code, Analytics Engines, i-confidential and Infotechtion. This increases our unique ecosystem to 20 partners, boasting over 1,250 experts, spanning all aspects of Digital, Data, Technology (DDaT), People, Process and Cultural Transformation.

New Look

We've even had time to evolve our brand with the help of Matt from Childs Brand Partners and we're currently working on a new iteration of our brand narrative which will soon lead to a website overhaul. Thank you to Helen Kettleborough for all the great work on this front!

New Recognition

We're also delighted to have been nominated for a number of awards which really underlines the huge progress we have made this year:

  • Digital Leaders Impact Award for our work at FSA on Report A Food Allergy

  • SME News, Midlands Enterprise Awards: Best Sustainable and Social Value Public Sector Transformation Consultancy

  • Mercury Business Awards: Environmental Champion

  • Mercury Business Awards: Small Business of the Year

2 years into the relaunch: Retrospective

As I said in my 2020 retrospective, we picked quite a year to relaunch the business. So how's it going? Well, let me tell you!

We have grown the business from a turnover of c£225k in FY19/20, increasing to £1.35m in FY20/21 and increasing again to c£2.75m in FY21/22 - that's 1000% growth in 2 years! Furthermore, we have achieved that during the pandemic at a time when many clients paused or curtailed investment and spending on other transformation consultancies.

We've come further than we ever could have imagined ... but we dare to dream and have business plans in place to further enhance our growing reputation as a recognised authority in public transformation in the UK, setting the standard for social value and creating a positive, lasting impact on public sector clients whilst making a difference in society. Watch this space! We'll keep you posted!
